Superstar Sanjay Dutt is back on the silver screen with his latest release Shamshera. The ace actor is known for his impeccable screen presence and has played many memorable characters on screen. While we all know about his love for cameras and acting, many of us are not aware that he is a foodie too. He has grown up eating rich and delicious preparations by his mother Nargis Dutt and father Sunil Dutt.
His wife Manyata is also a brilliant cook and according to Sanjay, she makes an interesting recipe called Mooli Prawns. All this and much more, the actor revealed in an exclusive interview with Times Food to Michelin-Star Chef Suvir Saran. Excerpts:
How do you connect with food?I am a foodie and I love eating all types of food including street food. There is something about roadside food. I guess the consistency of flavours stands them out. I am a big fan of Asli Puran Singh Da Dhaba. Their chicken and dal are so delicious, I just love them so much.
What is Maa ke haath ka khana for you? It's pure love. I grew up eating her Rajma Chawal and meat preparations, and there is a certain magic to them. Two of her dishes that I miss everyday are Rogan Josh and Shami Kebab.
So, is your wife also a talented cook too?Oh absolutely! She is a brilliant cook with a knack for details. Her Italian, American, and Indian dishes are a must-try. My favourites are her Yakhni Pulao and an interesting dish called Mooli Prawns.
What do you eat on a regular day?My breakfast includes Egg Whites, Oats, and fresh fruits or salad. For lunch, I prefer Steamed Fish with some greens. In between lunch and dinner, I enjoy a few fresh fruits, and then for dinner, it's usually Chicken Breast, Turkey Breast, or Steamed Fish.
Any weird food moments you had till date?I was shooting in Ooty and a Bengali actor insisted that he will make Mustard Fish for me. I guess he was drunk while cooking because the final dish had so much mustard flavour in it that I somehow managed to finish off.
One street food that you can't resist. In New York, there is a street dedicated to fish and lobster. I just can't resist. And in India, (especially in Mumbai) I enjoy Bombay Duck, which is a deep-fried duck preparation, crispy outside and juicy inside.

What's your favourite restaurant in Mumbai? With my family, every meal is memorable. We as a family make sure to dine out once a week and create memories. My kids are foodies too and enjoy all types of food.
We have heard you love travelling. Can we expect to see something related to food and travel in the near future?Well, I am all set to explore and discover the regional foods of India and to make people aware of the gastronomic diversity we are blessed with.
